the cssi community

The term cross-sector social interactions was introduced at the first international scoping symposium on cross-sector in 2007 at the London School of Economics (LSE), co-organised by Brunel Business School and LSE. The term CSSI was developed as a response to the need for a distinctive and 'uncharged' term that provides a wide enough spectrum to encompass past and future practices emerging at the intersection of the business, public and civil society sectors.

Who we are

The CSSI Community is an umbrella organisation of academic and practitioner organisations and individuals in the field of cross-sector social interactions.

As collaborations between government, business and non-profit organisations are increasingly elevated to a generalised practice delivering collaborative public goods and social innovations, we aim to share theoretical and practice-based insights on the role, processes and outcomes of practices emerging at the inter-section of the business, public and civil society sectors. Such practices include: social partnerships, multi-stakeholder initiatives, Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), stakeholder dialogue, socio-sponsorship, philanthropy, public finance initiatives and social entrepreneurship.

We foster open discussions during the CSSI bi-annual symposium and the organisation of professional development workshops at international conferences, provide analytically rigorous material through the publication of special issues in leading journals, books  and the publication of the Annual Review of Social Partnerships, and facilitate the exchange of information and development of new projects and collaboration across academia and practice by connecting people informally within the CSSI community in order to develop cutting edge theories and practices in cross-sector social interactions.

Our mission

Our mission is to serve society internationally by promoting values-based collaborative value creation in theory and in practice. We convene, empower and educate academics and practitioners in the field of cross-sector social interactions on how to develop, sustain, nurture, and institutionalise collaborative action across sectors as a way of addressing today's social and environmental challenges.

We serve this mission by acting as a global hub enabling people to access the most creative ideas, by nurturing networks of innovators, and through researching, testing and sharing practical interventions

Our vision

Our Vision is to inspire global collaboration for the social good.

Our values

Our CSSI community values integrity, commitment, creativity, altruism, imagination, and resilience.
